This one-day tutorial will give PhD students and postdocs a basic understanding of aspects of parameter estimation that are important in the Systems Biology practice. Fitting a model to given data by finding the appropriate parameter values is a common task in Systems Biology. Still, this often fails. In this course we discuss theoretical basics, existing methodologies, practical problems, and illustrative examples. This course is intended for a wide audience and does not require a strong background in mathematics or statistics. There will be a time window reserved for discussion of problems brought forward by the participants themselves. A short practical is included.
