Research

Creating a world class metabolomics knowledge infrastructure to improve personal health and quality of life. That is the aim of NMC’s research programme.

Associate projects
When drawing up the NMC research program, technology was not the starting point. Technology is a means to an end and that is why NMC started out by consulting research centres active in biomedical, plant, industrial biotechnology and food research. They formulated in respect to metabolites what they would like to be able to do, but cannot do due to lack of technology. This resulted in a list of biological research questions, which formed the basis for the research themes for the associate projects.

Core projects
The core projects are aimed at questions that require breakthrough technology development. Three themes appeared to be essential to building a cutting edge metabolomics infrastructure: biostatistics, metabolite identification and quantitative profiling. The projects in these themes are primarily focussed on the development of novel generic technology.
